Chapter One

Jeremy Vaan lay flat on his back, he was staring up at the seemingly never ending white mass that was his bedroom ceiling. He had been they for what seemed like days. He had not slept for months, he would occasionally drift into a doze for maybe an hour or so out of sheer exhaustion but he has not slept, truly slept, for as far back he could remember, everything had become a blur to him now. He has spent the last few months  living of endless cups of coffee, rivers of red bull and a cocktail of sleeping pill at night mixed with pep up pills every morning. Jeremy turned his head and looked at the clock that sat on on his bedside table, next to a book that he had never even opened and an empty glass. The glowing red levers showed 5:07, is would be morning very soon, everyone would be getting ready to start there days and get on with there lives, every one accept him. He hated this time, it was a kind of limbo not night, not morning. Should he get up? He did.
Jeremy made his way to the bath room and undertook the mundane rituals that started every ones day. He got out of the shower and looked at himself in the mirror, he saw his own body. The world really is out to make you feel pathetic, every were you look all you can see is well dressed, well toned people, the rest of up don't have a chance in hell of ever becoming anything more that what we are, a herd of animals. As a species we are so self important, we call every other creature on this planet animals, but we do not consider ourselves such a thing, what makes us different? How would other species view us as we destroy them and they homes.
Jeremy toweled himself off and dressed himself. He once again looked into his mirror and spent the next ten minutes adjusting his hair. But the end it was undeniable that he looked better but for who? He was not going any were today, no one would have known if he spent the hole day sat in a dressing gown watching Judge Judy back to back from dawn until dust. Jeremy made himself yet another cup of coffee. As he took his first sip he heard his post box as a few letters spilled in onto the mat. There was the usual junk, pizza menus, 'are you paying to much for...' 'you may have won' and all that other bullshit. There was only on addressed envelope all the rest were leaflets. Jeremy picked up the junk and threw it into the bin. He tore open the envelope and tossed into into the bin as well. It was a bill, the finial warning kind. This was bad news. Jeremy had almost no money to his name, he had spent the last year doing odd jobs for friends and family for cash. He found it impossible to keep up a job, Jeremy was not like other people, most would see that as a bad thing, he got bored with life.  Jeremy had over twenty nine thousand pounds of credit card dept and no job. He was ****.
But not to worry about all that life hoopla, he caught a sight of himself in the mirror, he looked pretty respectable once you got past the whole death warmed up look. Maybe he should go out. Morning was well underway and Jeremy liked to be part of the crowds, it felt safe to be surrounded by others. He supposed it was some sort of pack instinct, but in reality it was because he was lonely. He liked to be around people but he was less than comfortable with interaction with them.
Jeremy picked up he keys and wallet of the table next to the door, he opened the door and closed it behind him. Jeremy took a few steps and before he knew what was going on he had crashed into someone, an interesting some one. It was the woman from the flat up stairs, Jeremy was always a fan of sticking to stuff he had seen in films. He had seen this woman many times before, she was Susan Lowe. She had turquoise hair and a young striking face. Jeremy was infatuated by her from the moment he saw her. Susan was different he didn't want to just **** her he wanted to be with her. And right now everything in his mind told him that a relationships was a bad thing. It meant that he would have to share himself, he would need to become two people and that was something he could not do. Is was at this point that Jeremy realized that Susan was on the floor trying to pick up a huge mountain of papers that he had accidentally knocked out of her hands. She was trying to get them all while he just stood staring at her. He too got to his knees and starting to pick up the papers. They were notes for a newspaper article, Susan was a reporter. She looked at him.
'Thanks Jez, i think thats all of them. I hope so I've been working on these for two weeks'
'No worries, it's my fault any way, these the last one' Jeremy handed the last few papers back to her. There was a awkward moment when they were both on kneeling on the floor just looking at each other. The stood up a little to hurriedly, Susan spoke again.
'Have you eaten this morning, I was about to get breakfast from that coffee shop down the street, will you join me?'
'Sure I could eat' Jeremy replied in the most nonchalant manner he could muster. Susan sorted the paper, Jeremy offered to carry them in a sort of 'Carry your books' situations. She thanked him and they made there way to the small coffee house that they both used often, this was the first time they had ever been in there together. They ordered food, drank coffee and talked, just talked, about all manner of things, but to Jeremy each one seemed of vital importance. Later he would know that he was right.
After about an hour, it was a very long breakfast, Susan had to get to her office so that she could finish her story. They said there good byes and Jeremy made his way back to his apartment. He didn't want to be outside anymore. He opened is door and a stale smell hit him. He needed to clean, but that could wait. He moves straight over to his bedside take and removed his small pill box. It contained many painkillers, he was addicted he knew it but always lied to himself, said that he had 'a pain problem, not a pain management problem' They were both a lie, he liked to be high. He got the drug on prescription but took way to many. He looked down into the box and felt like a kid in a candy store, what a twisted analogy, he picked up two codeine and help them between his thumb and for figure, he placed them on his tongue, and enjoyed the familiar bitter taste. He washed them down with water. He opened his living room curtain and sat back on his sofa and let the sun light wash over him as he felt the Analgesic take effect, he felt his arm tense and the codeine hit his blood steam.
He had enjoyed his time with Susan yet one thing bothered him. They had arranged to meet up again in the evening, for a meal that seemed like a date to him. He had let his balls get the better of his brain again. All he knew was that he was going to end up hurting her, it was all to familiar, the desperate phone calls, they would try to understand him but he was just two messed up. Solitude, drugs, drink and insomnia. Those were his friends, he was not really ready to move up to people yet. Then again maybe it could be a good thing, maybe he could pretend he was normal for long enough. He needed contact, he had once been told, most likely by a shrink, that 'if you become a hermit, the less chance there is of someone finding your body when you die'. That scared him, but then again the truth is always scary.

[RP Over view - I like this one, This is important to developing the new Jeremy Vaan, I am once again trying to bring in Susan Lowe and think i now have the right way to do it. What do you guys think about the writing style? I'm structuring it as a novel as in-contrast to the more popular screen play look. Feed back is always useful. Hope you enjoy it.
